Upcycled Aluminum Square Earrings by MARO Designs
"Upcycling" is the process of using unused items to create new products.
These earrings are made from recycled aluminum that has been discarded.
■Design
Aluminum earrings are rare in Japan.
The design is characterized by a simple square shape made from polished recycled aluminum. Although it is much softer than silver, it has been beautifully finished by hand by a craftsman who has been working in Nairobi for 30 years.
The coolness of the aluminum material and the rounded shape of the earrings bring out the softness of the wearer, highlighting their natural beauty.
*Due to the hand-finished process, there may be hairline scratches.
*As this is a handmade product, there may be slight differences in shape.
■Brand introduction
Based in Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa, Maro Design has been creating contemporary jewelry using cow horn and bone for 30 years.
Beads and pieces made from cow horn and cow bone, traditional African materials, create unique shapes and are the basic materials for Malo Design jewelry.
The necklaces and earrings include aluminium-machined beads (recycled from old engine parts and polished to a high shine), paper beads (recycled magazines etc.), hand-machined glass (recycled), hand-machined ceramic and cotton string (recycled from t-shirts).
All of the silver is also locally made, and we also use traditional brass and silver beads from West Africa, clay beads from Mali, rubber tubing and special necklace wire from Germany.
